They actually moved this, and it’s now the home of the Volcano Art Center near the visitor’s center. We stayed in Volcano House in May and really enjoyed waking up with views of the crater. There is so much to do in the park that many people choose to spend at least one night in (or close to) the park. There are two campsites in the park, as well as a hotel whose lounge offers stunning views of the Halemaʻumaʻu crater. Overnight camping is possible in the park on two separate campgrounds, one of which also has tent rentals and cabins available. The park hotel combines a great location with average and somewhat pricey rooms and is called the Volcano House (website). Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park encompasses two of the world’s most active volcanoes, making it distinct among national parks.

You will need to check with the center before hiking within the park and to check on things to do, there is a daily schedule of ranger-led activities that you can join. Comfortable rooms, some with breathtaking views offer the experience of being part of history settings in a truly unique setting. Volcano House has received the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for the year 2014 for consistently receiving excellent traveler reviews. Park attractions include the following highlights, but please remember that there is far more in the park that deserves your attention (see e.g. this 1-day Hawaii Volcanoes National Park itinerary). It’s about 10 miles from the park, and it will take you about 20 minutes to get there. Hilo is about a 45-minute drive, and Kona is more than a 2-hour drive from the park. In Room Dining

Volcano House is the name of a series of historic hotels built at the edge of Kīlauea, within the grounds of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park on the Island of Hawai'i. The original 1877 building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and now houses the Volcano Art Center. The hotel in use today was built in 1941 and expanded in 1961. Trusdell said residents should look at his agency’s maps and learn how quickly lava may show up in their neighborhood. He also urged people living in one of the short-notice areas to pay attention if the summit turns red.

Looming at the edge with over 30 rooms that peer into the Kilauea’s Halemaumau crater, this hotel truly lives up to its name as ‘Volcano House’.
